Rockets
Last Friday we stayed back at Tamaki college and made rockets with Mr Dunn and Mrs Ferguson. We made two different types of rockets, straw rockets and paper rockets. One thing I liked about making the rockets was everything was cut out and ready and it didn't waist any of our time.

Hockey
This week on Thursday we had hockey. We learnt three things, how to grip the stick, dribble with the ball and juggle the ball with our stick. There were some parts about hockey that I liked and didn't like. For instance we got to have some fun doing games like Octopus, Juggling and red light & green light. We had some practices and then challenges. One of them was where we got into two teams and one of our instructors called out a number which was the amount of players that had to play from each team. The thing I didn't like about hockey was the fact that we were being taught the same skills that we were taught last year.

5 Minutes of...
Beneath The Sea
BANG! All of a sudden I had been dragged down to the bottom of the sea. I tried swimming upwards but my leg was caught under a rock, and I was losing my breath. I can see the bright sun looking down at me through the clear water. It is shining upon the sea like a reflection. I could finally move my leg again. I swam to the top of the sea, suffocating inside while my heart was racing. I am still having trouble breathing, but I knew I had to give it my all to reach the top.
I reached the top and felt like I almost died. I tried calling for help but land was a mile away and my phone was broken from the fresh, salty sea. I was stranded and alone until in the corner of my eye I saw this giant red helicopter. My eyes were keeping contact with it as I was struggling to keep floating in the water. I started sinking to the bottom of the sea again. I saw a plank of wood so I quickly grabbed it before I drowned. I jumped onto it, waved my arms, and screamed for help.
Someone peeked down at me and saw me while I was screaming. A hoist dropped down into the sea as I swam closer to it. It grabbed me like a claw machine. I was then lifted up high above the sea. I’m tragically gulping for air to breathe. I didn’t know how long I was out there. It felt like a day or maybe a week.
Yesterday Mrs Anderson's writing group had 5 minutes to write a story about the picture above. We had to partner up and sit back to back. We had to plan for 10 minutes and then write for 5 minutes.

Recount Writing
In writing, we have been introduced back into recount writing. We have searched blogs around the Manaiakalani Cluster for recounts and shared them with our class about what we liked our it. We them completed this mini quiz just to refresh our memories about recount writing.

Today we had a Duffy role model assembly. Our Duffy role model was Henry Tuipe’a. He talked about how reading came in his life and how it changed his life. He told us that reading has made him more confident in talking and in with his life. Reading has helped him go from a shy boy to a really confident man. He also told us why reading helps and why we should carry on reading. His talk really inspired us to carry on reading.

Maths
L.I: To solve word problems including addition and subtractions of decimals.
Today for maths we had to finish off our worksheet. Our worksheet that we had to finish was all about adding and subtracting decimals in word problems. The question I found the hardest was question 6 because it got me confused and frustrated. It took me a long time trying to complete the question but in the end I finally completed question 6. The questions I found the easiest were questions 7-10. I found those questions easiest because I already knew how to do them and I had a little help from Ms N and Sebastian.

Read Theory
For 20 minutes each day, our class has to read on Read Theory for 20 minutes. The first thing we had to do was read whole text. When we had done that we had to look at the question and think about which one goes best with the passage(story). We had to practise looking back at the text to find the information and then back at the questions to find the best answer. We do this so it can help us with our reading so wen the tests come we will be prepared.

My time was 12 minutes. My next goal is to beat 12 minutes. Next week we are having the adidas fun run and hopefully I will be able to beat 10 minutes.

Olympic Venues
We have been learning to consider both sides of a provocation so that we can make an informed opinion. Mrs Anderson asked us to make a DLO about olympic venues, she also asked us to think about two peoples points of views. To make an informed opinion we had to think about two points of views of what people think of our provocation. When we had done that we had to make our own point of view. My DLO shows a Olympic venue when it was first created then the Olympic venue now. On the left there is the provocation and my point of view. On the right the are two points of views.

Run Jump Throw
Today for Run Jump Throw we played a game of Octopus and learnt how to do race starters. The starter we learnt today was short distance race. We also learnt the difference between long distance and short distance races, after that we had a recap of last week. Look forward, Light feet, bent arms and cheek to cheek and high knees. For the starters we had to take one big step away from the line, when she said on your mark, we went into starting position and she also told us to "squish the bug". Squish the bug is when you move your foot so it is just behind the line, set, that is when we bend down and lift the back heel off of the ground, and go, that is when you start running. When we finished that we done a reaction challenge. We had to partner up and sit down face to face. When she said go we ran around and grabbed the cone and ran back to the middle.

Get Wise With Jeremy
Yesterday we had a session of get wise with Jeremy. He gave us some really good and helpful ideas to get wise with our money. He told us about the cross roads. He said don't always go the easy way, because it isn't as easy as you think. After that we learnt about Spend Some on you (SSOY) & Save some to(SST). We also found out that the Bank was there to manage and grow our money. To grow our bank accounts we need to liken saving to training in sport... the earlier we start growing our saving skills the better off we'll be, and one way to do that is to SSOY & SST. The talk the Jeremy gave was inspiring and something everyone could relate to. Different ways you could earn money is to do some chores around the house like doing the dishes, vacuuming the house, cleaning your room, babysitting and might help with the gardens. You could neighborhood jobs like mowing the garden, cleaning there garden, but you have to ask your parents so you have there permission, then ask your neighbor so you have their permission. Other ways are to Sell & Trade. You could do lemonade, garage sales and bake sales.

Story Scrambler
This is my story scrambler. I had to go on a website that chose the topic for us, then we had to choose how to do it. After that we had to write our story.
What It says:
I have been on an awesome adventure with a magician and he has showed me what the importance of being confident and showing respect is. I have learnt a lot of tricks as well. I learnt card tricks and how to make someone disappear and re-appear. but on of the tricks I didn't learn was how to get out of quicksand. My last moment wasn't to be sunk in quicksand with a magician. I was always wondering how I was going to go, but never in a million years would I have thought I would go down in quicksand with a magician. I have never realized that the most easy ways are never as easy as you think. I have always seen the easy things in life and never seen the hard ways. Today I have tried the hard way but realized the hard way wasn't as hard as you think. So from now on I'm wondering if I should do the opposite or follow my gut. Now I am wondering how am I going to go, am I going to go the way I wanted or one I will never think of. People have said to me that I am always going to be able to survive the big world, and now I'm wondering if they are right.
Life Ed With Nicole
Today we had our first session at the Life Education caravan with Nicole. We were also taught a fun game by nicole. The number he leader calls out is the amount of claps you have to do. We learnt about some of the systems that the body has. One of them was circular system and that is where the blood goes. Another part of the body that we learnt was the lungs and the heart. The lungs are the part that cleans your blood and makes it more clean for you to survive. The heart is what keeps you alive. We also learnt about the spine and what it was able to do. Did you know that when you are looking at something it is upside down and the part of the brain that helps you see is at the back of the brain. Wrist and your neck is where you can look to see if there is a pulse, just incase of emergencies.

Speech
“One's dignity may be assaulted, vandalized and cruelly mocked, but it can never be taken away unless it is surrendered.”
― Michael J. Fox
Kia Ora, bullying, should it stop? People have been hurt really bad because of bullies. Bullying is a big deal to lots of kids because they are affected by it and it scares them. Bullies might punch, kick, push or call them names, but how would you feel if younger people were getting hurt because of your actions? Bullies don’t know when to stop, but when they do, the damage is unheard of. The bullies main objective is to hurt people and when they do, they take it way too far, and that’s why bullying should stop.
There are 3.2 million kids worldwide that have been saying that they have been getting bullied or teased. Bullies can make kids not go to school or even outside their house. They make people feel uncomfortable. Kids are worried that they won’t be able to do their school work because of the bullies that are still in their head.
The stress of dealing with bullies can make kids feel sick. Can you imagine all the kids that don’t go to school because of the bullies. Bullies affect people’s lives and make them depressed and scared for life.
People have seen the consequences of being bullied but have you?
Can you remember the feeling of being bullied, Being punched or kicked or even been called names?
Little kids have been scared and badly injured, and have felt uncomfortable going to school because of the bullies that are still in the back of their heads right at this moment.
So here's the thing. Do you really want bullying to keep on going. Just imagine how everything could go wrong in the future. Think of what the consequences are or going to be. Thank you.
BLURB: Today we had our groups selections for the class finalists. We were put in our thinking groups then had to mark each others speeches. In our thinking groups, we all took turns presenting our speeches and then were marked on by the rest of the group. We were marking each other by a rubric made by Mrs Anderson.
